Afghanistan is currently in Stage Two of the Demographic Transition Model. The country holds a very high CBR at almost 40 and a fairly low CDR which is around 14. It also has very stable population growth, contributing factors being a very high TFR (5.33), a NIR above replacement level (2.4), and a population growth of 2% annually. Afghanistan shows signs that by 2050 it will be in Stage Three, but the country has a long way to go. They also need to dramatically increase Life Expectancy's if they ever want to get to Stages Three or Four. It is obvious that heath and sanitation needs help, especially considering the infant mortality rate is above 100% (115)! Afghanistan has a hard time making its way through the stages due to the amount of conflict the country is and was involved in. It is very apparent that the country is still in Stage Two of the Demographic Transition Model.
