The culture in Indonesia has been mixed with the religion and traditions of early migrants, especially the Portuguese and Dutch. Indonesian islands of Java, Sumatra, and Bali are the origins for hundreds of types of music. Gamelan, Dangdut, Keroncong, Sasando, Degung, and Angklung are just a few of the very popular styles of music in the country. Dance in Indonesia are often direct episodes from the Ramayana and Mahabharta from India. They also depict mythological events. Architecture is dominated and influenced by India and Europe. The staple food of most Indonesian dishes is rice served with mean and vegetables. Influences from the Chinese, European, Middle Eastern, Indian, Vietnamese, and Thai foods are in the food of Indonesians. Another huge art in Indonesia is specifically the art of Martial Arts. The famous dance dramas are forms of folklore in addition to personal dramas from the islands of Java and Bali.
It is so interesting to learn about such a multi-influenced culture, such as the culture of Indonesia. In addition, the amount of musical and art in the culture is really strange to me because it gives the nation a way to connect that more developed countries (such as the U.S.) are not able to do. I am also impressed by the international and different variations of foods that the country has.
This article directly explains the culture of Indonesia. It gives a good insight into the internationally influenced culture. The people of Indonesia are also bound together through their differences which is an important feature to have in a nation.
