Jakarta has been victim to multiple terrorist attacks and threats within the previous few months. The Indonesian capital was attacked with bombs and gunfire just two weeks ago, and now the capital is again facing threats of the event occurring at City Hall. "Jakarta General Affairs Bureau head Agustino Dharmawan said that the city administration had cooperated with the Jakarta Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) since November to secure City Hall after IS threats to Jakarta were first made public; security had then been heightened in the wake of last week’s attack." Police and government officials are working together to ensure the safety of citizens. Measures such as multiple police in uniform in addition to the existing guards are being upheld. The governor informed the author of this article that "he had always taken threats to his life lightly. 'I’m not scared. Life is in the hands of God. In any case, it’s better if I die young, you won’t have to watch me grow old.'"
The United States has also been victim of terrorism, such as 9/11 or the more recent California shootings, and I am still unable to comprehend the reasoning behind the attacks. I personally believe that terrorism, no matter where it's occurring, is unfortunate for the people involved. It is hard to imagine how the people in Jakarta are feeling after experiencing multiple attacks and likely having more threats to come.
This article relates to political welfare of the country because the issue needs to be resolved through the government. Of course citizens and other countries can do their part to help the regions affected get put back together, but overall it is a governmental duty to ensure the safety of citizens and to control the people being allowed into the country and into the areas where well-known threat are being positioned.
