Despite this article being written about an Afghan restaurant in LA, California; it still provides very good insight on the food and cultural values that are in place in Afghanistan. The writer of this expresses that the restaurant is owned by a refugee who has chosen to make their living in America by selling traditional foods. Food such as kebabs, ashak, dumplings, yogurt sauce, curry, bulani, nan-bread and more. The flavors are affected by its proximity to the Silk Road, where Afghan people were able to pick up cultural traits from Europe, India, China, and all the other countries that used the trade route.
Before reading, I had no idea what the title of this article was going to relate to nor did I know how it would relate to the culture of the country. However, after reading I was able to understand completely. The ability to possess multiple cultures to make their own is such a great attribute for the country to have.
The food in Afghanistan is obviously a mix of multiple regions of the world, molded to become something new. This is important in the culture as it is important that the nation is (was) able to blend into one. It is also important to recognize that the country has a mixed culture not only in food but in everything as evident by the trauma currently occurring in the region (the reason the restaurant owner is a refugee living here).
